Night Lake

Fishing by lantern light, alone in a rowing boat. You row out, cast the float, wait, and strike at the moment the bite registers — then the fight is a balance between reeling in and letting the line go slack enough not to snap. Selling the catch at the dock pays for better rods, reels, lines and bait, which is what lets you work the deeper water. Night Lake is slow on purpose and very quiet, and something in the dark is clearly not a fish.
